How can images mediate suffering? What is the relationship between images of suffering and the people and events depicted? What difference does it make who photographs or films incidents of suffering and how their images are produced, disseminated and viewed? Can or should photographers and film makers gain consent in situations of suffering, war or trauma? What does consent mean in these situations?
Morality and the Representation of Suffering (MARS) encourages discussions between a multidisciplinary group of practitioners and academics. The project encourages discussion and debates about the morality of representing suffering, pain and death.
